The water banana looks like a plant from fairytale land with giant spade leaves sprouting out from trunks in still water. It looks like a cross between an alocasia and a musa (banana) but it's not a hybrid. A native of Madagascar, these water plants have been known to grow 3m in height. The flowers are unisexual which grow into yellow berries that are edible. A must have for any tropical garden pond.
